What Is A Doula ?

A doula is a trained support professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational care to individuals and families throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. The word “doula” comes from Greek and means “woman’s servant.”

At the heart of our role, we are there to support and guide you as you move into parenthood. Our focus is on your overall well-being, helping you feel heard, respected, and confident during this transformative time. While doulas are not medical practitioners and do not perform clinical tasks, we work alongside healthcare providers to ensure you feel informed and supported.

During pregnancy, a doula offers tailored guidance and education, helping you explore your options and develop a birth plan that reflects your values and preferences.

Throughout labour, doulas provide continuous, hands-on support. This can include comfort techniques such as massage, breathing guidance, and helping you find positions that ease discomfort. We also help facilitate clear communication with your care team, ensuring your voice and choices remain central to your experience.

After your baby is born, a doula continues to support you by assisting with feeding, newborn care, and emotional recovery. We also help you reflect on your birth experience, which can be an important part of your transition into parenthood.

Overall, doulas play a vital role in helping families feel empowered, supported, and connected as they navigate the journey of pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood.

What is a mentored doula?

Having completed my training with The Birth Bliss Academy, I am currently practicing as a mentored doula, while working towards becoming a recognised doula.

During this stage I am supported by an experienced doula who provides ongoing guidance and support while I am offering services to you. This means you benefit not only from my knowledge and experience, but theirs too.

Birth Doula Services

Pregnancy unfolds much like the seasons in nature; each phase bringing its own quiet shifts, growth and transformation.

The first trimester can feel like winter; a deeply inward time. Much is happening beneath the surface, even if it cannot yet be seen.

The second trimester brings the energy of spring ; gentle renewal, growing strength and visible change as your body and baby blossom.

As you move into the third trimester, there is the fullness of summer, gradually ripening into autumn; a season of preparation, anticipation and readiness as your baby gathers strength for their arrival.

Then comes the fourth trimester; a return to winter. A sacred pause. A time for rest, healing, slowing down and gently getting to know your baby.

Throughout every season of your pregnancy I am here to offer you the support that you need, however you would like to see your birth unfold. What matters most to me is that you feel calm, informed and confident in the decisions you make. My role is not to direct your birth, but to gently guide and support you as you explore your options, so you feel empowered to create a birth experience that truly reflects you.

Choosing the right doula is deeply personal. Connection matters. I offer a complimentary hour, no-pressure conversation so we can meet, talk and see if we feel aligned.
